The "re-imagined" Acorn Antiques was called The Mall and was a parody of Eldorado. ~~

I'm sure I remember a Victoria Wood christmas special that "re-imagined" Acorn Antiques as a parody of the "new" Crossroads; all slick and glossy, but the same dodgy acting and scripts at the centre of it. I can't find any info about this anywhere, though. Did I imagine it? Daibhid C 23:28 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

A couple of points that might be worth mentioning but require some research:

1. Wasn't Crossroads originally broadcast live, which meant that there was no possibility of a retake if lines were fluffed or anything else went wrong? Hence the missed cues, bad continuity, poor camera angles, plot holes, etc, in Acorn Antiques.
2. In a recent interview, Victoria Wood mentioned that Acorn Antiques was intended to be a tribute to the pluckiness of the cast of Crossroads rather than a parody or criticism.
3. She also mentioned it was based on other soap as well as on Crossroads - I don't remember which one.
4. Derek the handyman is clearly meant to be a parody of the character Benny from Crossroads - are there other parallels in the cast members?

It was also (apparently) a parody of The Cedar Tree, which was a lunchtime drama, as I recall.

Also note that the spoof documentary was presented by Paul Heiney, not Duncan Preston (he being Mr Clifford).
