Chemical compound

Osmium(IV) fluoride is an inorganic chemical compound of osmium metal and fluorine with the chemical formula OsF4.[1] [2]

Synthesis

[edit ]

Passing fluorine over heated osmium at 280 °C:

Os + 2F2 → OsF4

Reaction products can be contaminated with other osmium fluorides.

Physical properties

[edit ]

Osmium(IV) fluoride compound forms yellow hygroscopic crystals.

Chemical properties

[edit ]

Osmium(IV) fluoride reacts with water.[3]

OsF4 + 2H2O → OsO2 + 4HF
