Hello everyone!
Better late than never - this issue is dedicated to refine Logo-Finalist 1 - "CO-Arrow" from this issue: #78
drawing

The goal here is:

  • to collect feedback
  • iterate on refinement ideas
  • maye play with color-versions (as an addition to the monochrome main logo)

Feel free to come up with your own versions/refinements - I would love to see them! ❤️
All the "iterations" I post here are just ideas it does not mean, that I prefer them over the "original" version :)

I also got an Idea: Ive removed the circle - borders still should be cleaned up!

Iteration 2 looks quite good IMO, on par with the original.

Iteration 6 is interesting

It'd be interesting to see some colored options.

There are basically three elements in the logo and if one of them will get color, then probably another one should be colored two and the third would remain white.

E.g. orange C, dark green O part and a white arrow?

I think if the Circle outlines are a bit more balanced with the rest (regarding spacing). It might be a good candidate!

I tried some color variations - I'm a little bit "unsure" about the more colorful ones, but what do you think?

I'm not quite sure if I did what you described, but (at least in my mind) I tried to even out the spacing a bit :)

Just for fun I also created a concept iteration with 3 Circles -> Iteration 9
It looks kinda cool to me, but it looses the readability of the "CO"-Aspect, which probably is not a good trade 😄

Feel free to share your feedback until tomorrow and I will try to create a "final" refined Version tomorrow in the evening.
My current state of mind leans towards using either:

  • the original design
  • Iteration 2 (my personal fav atm but not by far)
  • Iteration 6

I do kind of like the two-tone-color-versions (with the very subtle colors) though - What do you think?

IMO its distinct enough from the Ubuntu logo. And some resemblance to it won't hurt (as its also about humanity/community and FOSS).
Upd: people say the CO-Arrow is basically also an Open Collective logo with an arrow :) IMO the mere presence of the arrow makes it distinct enough

Actually it looks very nice!
And has both a community and maps aspect ❤️
Though its basically a new logo quite distinct from the original CO-Arrow.

Iteration 2 with 3 different colors

I like it except that the dark green is too dark :)

Maybe try to replace it with a slight color from "Iteration 2 with slight color"

@Flummic an important question is how do you see the logo as an application launcher icon.

E.g. in case it'd rounded by the system it'd make the olive background round too and it won't be as much of it.

Good idea, but it shouldn't get too messy either.
I'd either change the arrow or the ring - not both at once ;)

Iteration 3: Trying to make the shape more distinct by adding a circle - just experimenting here 👀

I really like this one for it's simplicity and readability at small sizes (e.g. should work well in variant for the android menu icon). If you wanted to experiment more with this option, you could try to see how adding some of the colors would look like for this one, e.g. giving the arrow and the dot colors?

Thank you so much for the feedback! Do you have any suggestions for the colors - I have been experimenting a bit with the CoMaps-Color-Scheme, but I haven't figured out a combination that I really like 😄

Okay here we go

My Fav-1: CO-Arrow

Monochrome:

Slightly Colored:

What I personally like:

  • it is really simple/clean
  • it includes the "C" and the "O" from CoMaps
  • it has a Navigation-Arrow which communicates Maps/Navigation to me
  • should look good in all sizes/colors/situations :)

I also created some MockUps:

I made two more test versions, the first one uses the muted neutral color (#c8dfc9ff) as a highlight for the little ball, the other one keeps it all-white, while keeping the arrow in the yellow.

I think personally I find the latter option quite nice as it keeps it at 3 colors, while making the arrow pop a bit more.

We need to finalize the criteria for the vote.

Since the focus right now is on the GA release, the logo voting will be postponed for now, which will give more time for work to continue on variations and finalization, without a really short time constraint.

Watch #78 for further updates.

Once again a tough decision for me between the two "Favs" I posted above. Here I base my decision solely on the engagement with the "Favs" where the slightly simpler version seems to be liked more.

So @yannikbloscheck here are the two versions for you - thank you for creating the mockups! ❤️

My 2c:

  • the notification bar version could benefit from a bit bigger arrow to make it more legible
  • in the tinted monochrome version IMO it'd be good to have the arrow stand out, not faded (e.g. compare how the tip of the compass needle stands out - nice)

I agree! Regarding the tinted icon/iOS-Icon I would love to see some more (iOS-)experienced designers work on it to polish it - maybe @Careylin from #78 (comment) would be willing to look into this?

I'm not a "real designer" so - while I will happily work on a notification bar version or implement small tweaks - my skills/knowledge are naturally limited compared to professional design people :)

Maybe more rounded corners like on #99 would be good too. But not the arrow edges, maybe it'd be better more sharp actually.
However I'm not sure a sharp arrow would look good with a rounded-edges CO.
