Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for (375ドル in my case, he offered 500ドル).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you 500ドル including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

My question is did the check clear and did you involve the Police. I just had almost the same exact thing happen and I'm like why so much money for a riding jacket..it's crazy.. What the hell do I do now??? I want to call the Police or something.. This guy has my address... I'm freakin out.. I called the contact name and it went to a hotel in Iowa and no one by the name was an employee or a guest...

Craiglist Scammers

I recieved a similar email on the sale of my furniture.
The guy offered to send me a check which included the cost of the movers. Turned out the check was made out for three times the worth of my item.

Needless to say, bells went off. Did not cash the check, and did some reasearch on all the names found on the check & return address of the envelope.
The address of the return address was non existant, although the name of the company on the check was legit. Doubt the check itself was legit though. I will be sending the check back to the company as written on the check with an explanation of where it came from. Will also send a copy of the check to the original return address, with a statement that the check was returned to the name on account.

Thanks goodness I came across this site.

Beware of:

He used two different emails, one of them was signed Rich in lieu of Ben.

Wish I would have looked him up before-we lost 3000ドル. I was skeptical as well but figured deposit check and made sure to tell bank i was skeptical and wanted to make sure the check completely cleared before made available-i use Bank of America and they told me that it cleared so i thought ok it was safe-scum of the earth-he just cheated my retired father out of 3000ドル dollars in which I feel responsible to pay him back-however i am unemployed due to the wonderful economy that we are living in. Sorry to hear that this guy

Sorry to hear that this guy scammed you out of all that money. What happened with the check after it cleared your bank account? How does a bank clear a bad check? Did the guy put a stop payment on the check after it cleared? Im just curious as to what exactly these scammers are doing so that I'll know what to look for to protect myself from this scam.
