I discovered in the process that nobody really knew how the protocol worked (Ilya included), as the documentation was completely wrong, and many mistakes were made in the implementation - though Ilya knew it better than anybody. It was also very incomplete and it took me another six months to reverse engineer what had been done and fill in the missing pieces.
