Puisqu'on est dans les trolls inter-OS il faut citer la réponse (un peu faiblarde il faut bien l'avouer) :
the bug was in the idle loop. many times a busy server doesn't hit the idle loop that often, or has other interrupts from network happen, or doesn't support apm.
the problem hits hardest only on machines that have apm, are mostly doing just disk i/o, and have no other runnable processes.
