Enhanced Software Technologies shuts down Commerce, May 15 (Tuesday) We've received word from multiple sources that Enhanced Software Technologies, the maker of the BRU backup package, has been shut down. EST was a successful company in the Unix and Linux backup market for years; it was acquired about a year and a half ago by Atipa Linux Solutions. Now, as part of the ongoing retrenchment at Atipa, EST has been closed.
Also heard from more than one source is the rumor (we have no hard verification of this) that a competitor is attempting to purchase the rights to BRU in order to take the product off the market. We do not know if this is true, but this sort of thing is the kind of risk that one takes with proprietary software. BRU users may find themselves looking for a new solution.
