"AMD is thrilled with the prospect of leveraging Red Hat's expertise in the Linux community and is looking forward to working closely with them on the development of an x86-64 powered Linux distribution," said Richard Heye, vice president and general manager, AMD's Athlon Product Division. "Since AMD's x86-64 architecture adds 64-bit extensions to the existing x86 code base, Linux users will have the advantage and ability to continue using all of Red Hat's existing 32-bit software as they migrate to 64-bit applications."
