Voici donc un historique du travail de Microsoft.

Si l'on veut être un peu plus objectif, les versions de Windows actuelles dérivent davantage de Windows 95 d'un point de vue interface, et de Windows NT d'un point de vue noyau, que d'un DOS ou d'un Windows x

Ainsi donc, cette famille de système d'exploitation n'existerait donc que depuis août 1995, ce qui lui fait tout de même 8 ans de développement.
