Batch Lossy JPG And PNG Compression Script Using GraphicsMagick

| Date: December 12, 2012 | View Comments | Tags: compress, image, linux, script, ubuntu

WebUpd8 reader Bruce Ingalls has created a script for batch lossy compression of jpg and png files. The script is useful if you have a lot of images - e.g., you can run it to compress all the images used by a website, etc.

The script compresses only the files for which the resulted compressed image is detected to be smaller than the original image file. It uses GraphicsMagick which Bruce says is better for compression than ImageMagick (~1.5% smaller images with GraphicsMagick than with ImageMagick) and also faster, when compressing a large number of images.

Update: it also works with Nautilus 3.10 / Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10.

The Pidgin Embedded Video with with the image patch has been uploaded to the Frasten PPA (thanks to Frasten for the heads up!) so you no longer have to compile it. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, see this post.

To install Pidgin Embedded Video in Ubuntu, run the following commands in a terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:frasten/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pidgin-embeddedvideo

Then activate the plugin from the Pidgin options.

If you don't want to add the PPA, you can also manually download the .deb file.

"Transload" (Upload) Any Image In Firefox To ImageShak or Phyrefile Using One Click [Add-on]

| Date: September 16, 2009 | View Comments | Tags: addons, firefox, image, imageshack, upload, web

Image Transloader

Image Transloader is a Firefox extension which automatically sends any image in your browser, to ImageShack or phyrefile, copying the code to the clipboard, all with just one click. You can customize the code so that you get the image code for posting it to a forum, direct image link or HTML code for using the image into a website.

Using this Firefox add-on is very simple: just right click any image and select "Trasload to Imageshack" or to "phyrefile", depending on which service you set to be default. The image code will then be automatically copied to the clipboard. Additionally, you will have a menu to access the images you have uploaded before.

image2mpeg

Image2mpeg is a tool to convert digital photos (or any other images) into MPEG video streams, with transitions between the images. The photo stream may be accompanied with music (or any other audio stream). The resulting slideshow may be prepared for VCD, SVCD, or DVD playback in stand-alone players, or the MPEG videos may be converted into FLV (Flash Videos). The type of transition can be selected for each image separately from a set of fade, slide, roll, etc.

Image2mpeg also supports the Ken Burns Effect, where photos can be panned and zoomed during display.
