Chocs Away!

So I've finished off painting up the Silurian Pterosaur rider (please excuse the terrible lighting) and what a bugger it's been! The brown top half of the Pterosaur wasn't too bad - building up washes and highlights, and I won't dwell on the failed attempts to paint on some bold black stripes/markings on the wings...
The under belly was the real faff! Found some great pitures to support my idea for the colour scheme and I wanted to go with white underneath (harder for the prey to spot when seen against the bright sky!).

The sky's the limit!

Happy New Year to one and all!

Didn't get anything done over Christmas except abuse my liver and digestive system until today...

Haven't forgotten the Elves or Orcs (batch painting a load of Skarloc's archers at the mo) but I wanted a go with some of my new toys, namely a pin vise, razor saw and assorted files...

I've long wanted to do a Silurian Pterosaur rider, as featured in the Virgin novel Blood Heat, and having bought one of Ral Partha's Lizard warrior on a Flying Reptile a while ago I've just been waiting for the right tools for the job.

Now I don't usually post pics of unpainted minis but I was quite pleased with my first (in my opinion) major conversion! There was of course the task of switching the legs round with the Lizard Warrior and a Silurian, along with a bit of pinning, arm repositioning and green stuffing to get a fairly dynamic pose.

I had to chop off the Pterosaurs horn/crest as unless it flew with its head constantly to one side it would have impaled its unfortunate rider! A couple of brain implant/reins leading to the Silurian pilot completed the build. The clear flying bases are temporary for the photos - waiting for a nice scenic one to come in the post. Now to the paint pots!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

Love these minis - they seem a little more Sea Devilish than the ones you can get individually from Black Tree, if that makes sense, and also lend some much needed variation to my growing Silurian force.

I seem to have gone a little darker in colour than the last batch so may have to go back to them to make less dayglo orange... definitely prefer this more naturalistic duller tan colour.

The string vests came up nicely too, with a few pure white highlights suggesting a pearlescent, metallic sheen to the Sea Devils' garb.

Next up - I'll leave my barbed wire fencing project to concentrate on some windbreakers!

Tried going for a balance with the bases - sand and a bit of static - doesn't look to bad on the beach - could imagine the green is seaweed... Tried for a dune grass look with some longer straw coloured stuff but it didn't look right. Don't think they'll look too bad on a grassy battlefield either.

Now I need a bunch of the armoured fellows to act as squad leaders and shock troops and I'll almost be there...

... apart from the T Rex and Pteranodon riding Silurian hunters I'd like to have a go at converting!

Hopefully my order of Sontarans will arrive before then and give me something slightly easier to get stuck into!

Silurians and Sea Devils

Another Reason Not To Go Potholing...

The Silurians were great Who monsters and having read Bloodheat I was inspired to put together an invasion force for their next takeover bid.

Painted up an Icthar mini as the colony leader Morka - miraculously back from the dead! Pictured here with a Nanotyrranus from Copplestone Castings.

Here's the rest of the rank and file - shame there are only two poses for the Silurian warriors but al least they are pretty faithful representations.

No self respecting Silurian would embark on a war of extermination against the apes without a few fighting animals -

Allosaurus - Ral Partha I think - bargain off Ebay!

Pterodactyll - Copplestone Castings

Nanotyrannus - Copplestone Castings

Had to include their aquatic brethren, the Sea Devils, for some heat ray action -

Not forgetting the "fearsome" Myrka!!

And here are a few shots of them in action -

Also wrote a four part Invasion Earth scenario to go with the scaly ones -
