About UNESCO Montevideo

UNESCO Montevideo was established in 1949, shortly after the birth of the Organization worldwide, under the name of UNESCO Center for Scientific Cooperation for Latin America and the Caribbean. It was the first UNESCO scientific cooperation center in the world.

After more than 70 years of work, today it is constituted as a Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean where specialists, programs and projects of various kinds converge, working with allies and collaborators from UNESCO to improve the lives of people throughout the continent. It is also the UNESCO Representation for Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay, as well as the coordination with UNESCO offices in Brazil and Peru.
