Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development
ESCAP works to strengthen the capacity of member States to achieve stable, inclusive and sustainable economic development in Asia and the Pacific. It also examines structural economic policies for long-term socioeconomic prosperity amid shifting global and regional development landscapes and challenges.
ESCAP emphasizes the essential role of Financing for Development for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and in supporting the follow-up and implementation of the Sevilla Commitment at the regional level by building on its existing activities, mechanisms and platforms. The priorities identified in this area include accelerating sustainable finance frameworks, roadmaps and instruments, working with central banks to advance the adoption of sustainable finance, financing energy transitions, supporting the development of bankable project pipelines for sustainable finance, and other related areas.
ESCAP upholds and advances all the commitments on financing for development made in the 2002 Monterrey Consensus of the International Conference on Financing for Development, the 2008 Doha Declaration on Financing for Development, the 2015 Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development, the 2025 Sevilla Commitment adopted at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development as well as the commitments made in the Pact for the Future.
To provide evidence-based policy analysis, ESCAP produces regular publications, such as the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific and ESCAP Financing for Development Series. It also provides capacity-building support to its member States, facilitates policy dialogues, and fosters regional cooperation as a means to achieve development ambitions.
