The ESCWA Policy Briefs are a series of short briefs intended to provide the latest data, analysis, methods, and information on various issues affecting the Arab Region. Produced by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, the briefs discuss relevant global issues and challenges affecting the region. They call for recommendations, and in some cases, needed reforms, noting challenges and policy implications.

The Femicide Briefs are jointly published by UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Women. Femicide, or feminicide, broadly defined as the intentional killing of women and girls because of their gender, is rising around the world. These briefs are produced to help raise awareness and public outcry against these killings. Much more needs to be done to prevent violence against women, stop its escalation, provide adequate services to survivors, and punish perpetrators.

El objetivo de esta serie es salvar la brecha que existe entre la investigación y la política mediante la identificación de los temas que requieren una atención urgente desde el área normativa y la formulación de propuestas de medidas adecuadas para abordar dichos temas. La serie constituye una iniciativa conjunta de la División de Políticas de ONU Mujeres y está coordinada por la Sección de Investigación y Recogida de Datos. Para garantizar la calidad y la pertinencia de su contenido, cada resumen se somete a un riguroso proceso de revisión entre pares, tanto interno como externo. The objective of this series produced by UN Women’s Research and Data Section is to analyse and assess global trends in thematic areas across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from a gender perspective. Each paper in the series reviews the state of gender equality in one of the 17 SDGs and showcases how multi-level data disaggregation by sex, age, and other relevant characteristics can help in identifying gender gaps and inequalities among groups of women and girls. Pressing data gaps and measurement challenges are also highlighted in each spotlight.

This series explores in depth the trends and impacts of the recent global COVID-19 pandemic on violence against women and girls. It examines implications for the prevention of and response to violence against women and girls in public and private settings, including violence facilitated by information and communications technology. It also provides guidance for the collection of data on the impact of COVID-19 on violence against women and girls. Each brief in the series draws upon the knowledge and experience of a wide range of stakeholders that are supporting solutions to end intimate partner violence and other forms of violence against women and girls, accounting for the individual country context in which the crisis is occurring. The briefs make recommendations for all sectors of society, including governments, civil society, and international organizations, on how to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls at the onset, during, and after the public health crisis, and include examples of actions already taken.

The series is a joint effort of UN Women’s Policy Division, coordinated by the Research and Data Section. To ensure the quality and relevance of the content, each brief undergoes a rigorous internal and external peer review process. These concise and relevant policy-oriented documents are useful resources for gender equality advocates, civil society and other policy actors working to achieve gender equality and women's rights.
