Assessment for Minimum Proficiency Level - AMPL
AMPL
Assessments for Minimum Proficiency Levels (AMPL) are innovative and robust tools designed to measure whether students achieve minimum competency in reading and mathematics at specific stages of the education cycle. These assessments enable countries to determine the percentage of learners reaching the Minimum Proficiency Level (MPL) to produce internationally comparable data for reporting on SDG 4.1.1.
The development of AMPL represents a significant advancement, with the potential to align both national and cross-national assessment programs to a unified set of global standards in reading and mathematics, as defined by SDG 4.1.1.
Development
AMPLs are calibrated modules aligned with the global definition of the Minimum Proficiency Level (MPL). Initially developed in English and French, the reading and maths modules are part of a broader toolkit that provides countries with a cost-effective methodological approach to assess learning outcomes, while building national capacity to regularly generate, analyse, and report learning data while tracking progress toward SDG 4.
