Earnings higher in both sectors

Compared to earnings for May, average gross earnings increased in both sectors – in the private by 1.3% and in the public by 4.8% (in the institutional sector general government they went up by 5.2%). A more significant increase in the public sector during this period is partly related to the payment of the third part of the agreed pay rises for public servants under the introduction of a reformed public sector wage system, which came into effect on 1 January 2025.

The highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply

At the level of the sections of activity, average earnings were the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (EUR 3,823.77 gross and EUR 2,339.42 net), and the lowest in accommodation and food service activities (EUR 1,998.19 gross and EUR 1,291.11 net).

The share of wage compensation paid by the employer largest in public administration and defence, and compulsory social security

The largest share in the structure of average gross earnings was the amount for basic earnings (64.4%), followed by the shares of the amounts for wage compensation paid by the employer (17.0%), for supplements (12.8%), for part of earnings for job performance (5.6%), and for payment for business performance (0.3%). The share of wage compensation paid by the employer in the amount of average gross earnings was largest in public administration and defence, and compulsory social security (23.4%), the share of supplements in mining and quarrying (21.9%), the share of part of earnings for job performance in education (9.3%), and the share of payment for business performance in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (5.2%).

More than a fifth of persons in paid employment received less than 1.2 times the minimum wage

Assuming that all persons in paid employment by legal persons who received earnings and/or wage compensation paid by the employer were employed full-time (i.e. 40 hours per week), average gross earnings for June would amount to EUR 2,762. In this case, 22.2% of persons in paid employment would receive gross earnings lower than 1.2 times the minimum wage, half gross earnings lower than EUR 2,336, and 64.7% gross earnings lower than average gross earnings. On the other hand, a quarter of persons in paid employment would receive gross earnings higher than EUR 3,196, a tenth gross earnings higher than EUR 4,315, and 1% of the highest-paid persons in paid employment gross earnings exceeding EUR 8,320.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
To ensure the comparability of data between individual persons in paid employment and the observed periods, the data used to present the cumulative distribution function and selected indicators in the chart on cumulative distribution function of gross earnings are converted to full-time equivalent. When presenting the data in this chart, we assume that all persons in paid employment by legal persons who received earnings and/or wage compensation paid by the employer are employed full-time (i.e. 40 hours per week). The converted data on gross earnings of an individual person in paid employment are calculated by multiplying the amount of gross earnings per paid hour by the number of working hours according to the calendar, which applies to a 40-hour weekly work obligation in the observed month. As a result, the calculated value of the indicator showing average gross earnings (average) is slightly higher than the officially published data on the amount of average gross earnings of persons in paid employment by legal persons. The same applies to the remaining presented indicators of the distribution of gross earnings.

Data are not seasonally and calendar adjusted.

Data in the release are published according to the new Standard Classification of Activities (SKD 2025). On 1 January 2025, EU Member States started to use NACE Rev. 2.1. In Slovenia, a new national version SKD 2025 started to be used. The main differences between the previous and the current version are described in the document Differences between the SKD 2008 and SKD 2025 (in Slovenian language only).

More general information about the introduction of the new classification is available on the website about classifications and codes.

Additional explanations are available in the methodological explanations.
