Total increase highest in the 3rd quarter
Natural decrease and positive net migration were recorded in 2025 (−4,262 and 8,519 persons, respectively). Total increase was 4,257.

Births peak in the summer, deaths in the winter
For the ninth consecutive year more people died than were born.
Most of the 16,961 children born in 2025 were born in the third quarter (4,609), the fewest in the first (4,063). Among 21,223 deaths, most people died in the first quarter (5,809) and the fewest in the third quarter (4,744).
Natural decrease was recorded in all four quarters of the year and almost in all months (only in September was positive). The number of deaths exceeded the number of births the least in the third quarter (−135). In the first quarter natural change of population was most markedly negative (−1,746 or −3.3 per 1,000 population).
Most weddings in summer months
6,455 couples married. Most marriages were recorded in the third quarter (2,454). The month with the most weddings was August (944 couples were married).
2,172 couples divorced. Most divorces were recorded in the fourth quarter (599).
Net migration positive in all quarters
Net migration was positive in all quarters. It was the highest in the third quarter: 3,001 more residents immigrated to Slovenia than emigrated from it.
Most, 26%, internal migrations, i.e. changes of settlement of residence within Slovenia, were recorded in the third quarter of the year. In total, 4% fewer internal migrations were recorded than in 2024.
