Introduction to National Printing Bureau Technology

Pursuit of documents with higher levels of security and reliability

Since its foundation, the National Printing Bureau has contributed to society by developing technology to ensure the security of printed public documents through research on anti-counterfeiting technology. The following are examples of various Bureau's technologies considered beneficial to the general public.

Technology for anti-counterfeiting authentication

Anti-counterfeiting technology is designed to prevent forgery and illegal copying of documents. The National Printing Bureau has developed anti-counterfeiting methods that enable anyone to determine the authenticity of printed documents easily. There are several authentication methods for such determination.

くろまるTechnology for authentication with the naked eye
This type of technology allows naked-eye authentication of printed materials. For example, authenticity may be determined by holding the printed material up to the light or looking at it from an angle without the use of special devices.

くろまるTechnology for authentication using devices
This type of technology involves device-based authentication. Methods include using a magnifying glass, covering the document with a special sheet or photographing with a special camera.

A different image appears when the document is viewed from an oblique angle.

Different shiny images appear when the viewing angle is changed.

Characters and images invisible on the original print appear on reproductions made with a copying machine.

Latent images in a picture of the printed material appear when viewed under infrared light.

A couple of different latent images appear when a special transparent sheet is placed over the document.

A pattern with specially shaped dots that cannot be duplicated in a photocopy is included.
