Participation in UNFCCC-COP

In 2004 NIES was admitted as a non-governmental observer organization by the Conference of the Parties under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol, such that the representatives of NIES may attend sessions of the Convention bodies in the capacity of observers. In December of the same year it participated in COP10 and exhibited a booth to introduce its activities and environmental research outcomes with an emphasis on those relating to climate change. NIES has organized a side event and exhibited a booth during the COP/CMP sessions since then.
