Since approximately 50% of the total CO
2 emissions of Japan are derived from urban activities, it is expected to tackle the reconstruction urban structures into low-carbon ones in order to reduce CO2 emissions effectively in urban areas.
Besides, an aging society with declining birthrate, it is imperative to improve urban structures to be sustainable so that residents can enjoy safe, secure and comfortable life style.
Responding to those requirements, the Government of Japan is promoting the “Low Carbon City Development”.
