Economic Impact of Low Fertility and Aging Population in Thailand

Outline

This project aims to explain the mechanism of the low fertility rate and aging problem in Thailand by developing an empirical model which interlinks a multi-sectoral sub-model based on input-output tables with birth/demographic sub-models. Applying the linked model to conduct simulations focusing on policies related to populations, we attempt to evaluate the mid and long-term impact of low-birth and aging populations on Thailand’s economy. That will provide a deeper understanding of the population and economic policies that will enable the Thai economy to grow sustainably.
