Political economy of "high-tech agriculture" development policy in Vietnam

Outline

This research aims to identify the characteristics of Vietnam's economic and social impacts on rural societies brought about by the "high-tech agriculture" development policy inaugurated in 2010. Vietnam has long maintained state-led agricultural technology development and diffusion systems even after its economic liberalization. However, launch of this policy represents Vietnam’s major shift in the directions of agricultural development in that it seeks to promote the "industrialization" of agriculture by capitalist-led introduction of new production technology.
