ASEAN Centrality in a Comparative Perspective(2020_2_40_021)

Outline

Existing studies on "ASEAN Centrality" fail to examine whether ASEAN actually has centrality in institution-building diplomacy in Asia-Pacific. This is mainly because the studies ?lack comparative perspectives. The proposed study first generalizes the concept of centrality in regional international relations and then examines whether a certain regional institution has centrality in the formation of various regional institutions. We will compare ASEAN and Mekong, which is a subset of the former. ASEAN/Mekong will also be compared with other regions such as Europe and Africa.
