Human Movement and International Relations in Pacific Island Countries(2019_2_40_019)

Outline

The economy of many Pacific island countries (PICs) is highly reliant on remittances of their own overseas citizens that have emigrated to other countries and regions, temporarily and permanently. At the same time, these countries have experienced economic and social changes due to increasing immigration among PICs, as well as from the outside. This study examines the institutional aspects of such migration from, to, and among PICs. It covers the bilateral, regional, and international agreements that govern the movement of persons, as well as the domestic legal and regulatory frameworks in relevant fields.
