The Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) was established in 1951 as a joint research institute for the electric power industry to contribute to the industry and to society through science and technology research. Since then, experts in engineering, science, social sciences, and a wide range of other fields have come together to provide technical support for the electric power industry, which supports the development of society.

In recent years, the movements toward the decarbonization of energy and the advancement of digital technology have brought about major changes in the structure of the industry and in how society ought to be. The stable and economical supply and usage of electric power and other forms of energy is essential for the sustainable development of human life, the economy, and society. How to achieve this while protecting the environment is a common issue shared by people around the world. At CRIEPI, we work with a wide range of related organizations in Japan and overseas to resolve issues and to develop research that will drive transformation.

According to our founder, Yasuzaemon Matsunaga, "Industrial research is what disciplines wisdom, and it should contribute to society." In line with this philosophy, we will produce research results by striving with sincerity to uncover the truth of things and always keeping the society beyond the electric power industry in mind.
