YouTube access restrictions for users ages 13 to 15 in Florida

In response to a local law, users who are 13 years old and not using supervised kids accounts will no longer be able to sign in to YouTube in Florida. Users who are 14-15 years old and not using supervised kids accounts will no longer be able to sign in to YouTube in Florida unless they link to a parent’s account. In Florida, parental consent is required for users who are 14-15 years old to access YouTube.

Note: Signing out of YouTube won’t sign you out from other Google services.

When signed out, you won’t have access to certain features, including:

  • Likes
  • Subscriptions
  • Private playlists
  • Memberships

If you have a YouTube channel, your channel will no longer be visible to other users, and you will not be able to access certain features, including:

  • Uploads
  • Comments
  • Earning money on YouTube

You can follow the instructions below to download your data and the content you’ve created.

What you can do

Link to a parent’s account

Users who are 14-15 years old can link to a parent’s account to regain access to YouTube.

To link to a parent’s account:

Download your data & content

  1. Go to Google Takeout.
  2. Under "CREATE A NEW EXPORT," select the YouTube and YouTube Music checkbox.
  3. Select Next step.
  4. Fill out the "Choose file type, frequency & destination" form.
  5. Select Create export.

Delete your data & content

We’re continuously working to keep you in control of your privacy and security on YouTube. At any time, you can permanently delete your channel and content, including videos, subscriptions, and search and watch history.

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/youtubeoptions.
  2. Select I want to permanently delete my content.
  3. Select the options that apply to you.
  4. Select Delete my content.
Note: Visit My Activity to delete specific interactions on YouTube, like search and watch history, likes, and comments.

Update your location

If you no longer live in Florida and believe that a different location should be associated with your account, you can submit a request to change your region.

Sign in when you turn 16

When you turn 16, you will be able to sign in to YouTube again, giving you access to your channel(s), all of your uploads, and comments. To re-enable your channel, follow the steps to create a new channel. Once the steps are completed, your old channel will be reinstated.

If you are already 16 or older, you will need to take additional steps to sign in to YouTube.

  • Confirm your birthday on your Google account. You can navigate to the "Personal info" section in your Google Account settings. Select Birthday, confirm the date, then select Save.
  • Verify your age to sign in.

Once you verify, you may need to sign in to YouTube again to regain access.

FAQs

What if I am a co-owner of a channel?

These access restrictions will be applied to the primary co-owner of the channel. If the primary co-owner is 13-15, they will not be able to sign in to YouTube. The channel will no longer be visible to users.

What if my child is using a supervised account?

If your child is 13-15 years old and using a supervised kid account on YouTube, they will not be affected. If they are using a supervised teen account, they will be automatically signed out from YouTube.

If my family has a YouTube Premium family plan with a user who is 13-15 years old, what happens to that account?

Since this user will be signed out, the Premium plan will no longer apply to this user. If a family plan no longer suits your household, you can explore our other plans, such as the Two-Person plan or individual plans. You may cancel your Premium membership at any time.
