Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary is a Professor at Tokai University, Japan, and the Vice President and co-founder of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), based in Australia.

He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Keio University and Waseda University in Japan, and as an Associate Professor at Tokai University. He has also held visiting positions at various universities and institutions, including Keio University (Japan), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), UCSI University (Malaysia), the Institute of Energy Economics of Japan (IEEJ), the Credit Risk Database (CRD) Association of Japan, the Graduate School of Economics at the University of Tokyo (Japan), Griffith University (Australia), and the University of Tasmania (Australia).

On May 22, 2024, Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary was one of 11 researchers in Japan, across various disciplines, to receive the Research Front Award from Clarivate, which recognizes researchers who have made exceptional contributions to globally significant, cutting-edge fields of research.

On April 19, 2023, he was awarded the Medal and Commendation for Science and Technology by Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in recognition of his outstanding research in renewable energy financing, particularly his design of the Green Credit Guarantee Scheme.

In 2022, he was named one of Clarivate’s Highly Cited ResearchersTM, representing the top 0.1% of scientists globally.

In 2019, he was selected as an Excellent Young Researcher (LEADER) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), Japan.

Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has published extensively on topics such as energy economics, energy policy, green finance, small and medium-sized enterprise finance, Asian economics, and the contemporary Japanese economy. His scholarly output includes an extensive number of academic journal articles and book chapters, as well as more than 30 books published by major publishers such as Springer Nature, Routledge, Elsevier, World Scientific, Edward Elgar, and the Asian Development Bank Institute.

He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management (World Scientific) and as an associate editor or editorial board member of several other academic journals.

Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has led, managed, and contributed to numerous research, capacity-building, and consulting projects related to energy, economics, and finance for international organizations, financial institutions, and governments worldwide.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Keio University, Japan, obtained under a Japanese government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship.
