On Stack Overflow, there are currently many ways I can view what I have done — my questions, my votes, my favourites etc. But where is the view that shows me new answers to my questions and comments on my questions and answers?

It does need to be more discoverable - I didn't find it even though I was looking. The icon should be just a shortcut and the feature really tab in the user profile. Click on the envelope icon at the top of the page next to your name:
the envelope
That is your Recent Activity Page.
