Chagas disease is a serious public health problem in Latin America, the region with the greatest diversity of triatomines. In Brazil, Triatoma brasiliensis brasiliensis is the main vector of Trypanosoma cruzi in semiarid areas of the northeast region. This vector feeds on several vertebrate hosts and colonizes several ecotopes. The image shows a cattle corral, often infested with T. b. brasiliensis. This structure is common in areas undergoing desertification, used for semi-extensive cattle raising. Inside the cattle corral are cows and calves whose food is supplemented by cactus palma Opuntia cochenillifera. Lima-Neiva, et al. (2021)
