Dude! 👀
I've been through this in some detail. It seems ok, but the qualification is that the licenses are used ONLY for open source work.
I can't guarantee that so I'm not sure if we qualify
Hi @simonhamp,
thanks for pointing that out — it’s definitely important to clarify.
I can reach out to JetBrains again to ask how strictly they enforce the rule that the licenses must be used only for open source work.
From my perspective, this mainly benefits those who contribute exclusively to this repository — for them, it would be a clear advantage.
Also, using the license is voluntary, so nobody is obliged to use it.
I’ll get back to you as soon as I hear more!
Hi @simonhamp,
I followed up with JetBrains and you were right: the licenses may only be used for open source projects.
From my perspective, this is still a clear benefit for everyone actively contributing here — by default, contributors already meet the requirements. And if someone wants to use PhpStorm (or other tools) for private or commercial projects, they can simply choose not to use the license.
I also think it would reflect positively on the project’s image to have JetBrains officially supporting us.
What’s your take on this?
Cheers 🙂
Agreed. I've made a direct application for licenses. When they come back with details, I will determine what the right level of shout out is required.
Uh oh!

Hi @simonhamp,
I reached out to JetBrains to ask if they would be willing to support our project through their Open Source Support Program — and they said yes.
To be eligible, the only requirement is to add a short note in the README, mentioning that the project is "powered by JetBrains." This is a common practice in many open-source projects they support.
I want to emphasize that I'm not doing this for personal benefit, but to provide real value to everyone actively contributing to the project. With this, all contributors would be eligible to receive free licenses for JetBrains products like IntelliJ, PhpStorm, WebStorm, and others — which can be a great help and motivation, especially for new contributors.
So I’d like to propose adding a brief mention in the README to acknowledge their support. I believe it’s a small change with a clear benefit to the project and the community.

What do you think?
Chears 🙂
