Steps to list a new deletion review

Before listing a review request, please:

  1. Consider attempting to discuss the matter with the closer as this could resolve the matter more quickly. There could have been a mistake, miscommunication, or misunderstanding, and a full review may not be needed. Such discussion also gives the closer the opportunity to clarify the reasoning behind a decision.
  2. Check that it is not on the list of perennial requests. Repeated requests every time some new, tiny snippet appears on the web have a tendency to be counter-productive. It is almost always best to play the waiting game unless you can decisively overcome the issues identified at deletion.
Warning If your request is completely non-controversial (e.g., restoring an article deleted with a PROD, restoring an image deleted for lack of adequate licensing information, asking that the history be emailed to you, etc), please use Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion instead.
  3. Be aware that requests which appear to be written by large-language models will normally be summarily denied. Write in your own words.
1.

Click here and paste the template skeleton at the top of the discussions (but not at the top of the page). Then fill in page with the name of the page, xfd_page with the name of the deletion discussion page (leave blank for speedy deletions), and reason with the reason why the discussion result should be changed. For media files, article is the name of the article where the file was used, and it shouldn't be used for any other page. For example:

{{subst:drv2
|page=File:Foo.png
|xfd_page=Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2009 February 19#Foo.png
|reason=
}} ~~~~
2.

Inform the editor who closed the deletion discussion by adding the following on their user talk page:

{{subst:DRV notice|PAGE_NAME}} ~~~~
3.

For nominations to overturn and delete a page previously kept, attach <noinclude>{{Delrev|date=2026 September 2}}</noinclude> to the top of the page under review to inform current editors about the discussion.

4.

Leave notice of the deletion review outside of and above the original deletion discussion:

  • If the deletion discussion's subpage name is the same as the deletion review's section header, use <noinclude>{{Delrevxfd|date=2026 September 2}}</noinclude>
  • If the deletion discussion's subpage name is different from the deletion review's section header, then use <noinclude>{{Delrevxfd|date=2026 September 2|page=SECTION HEADER AT THE DELETION REVIEW LOG}}</noinclude>

Commenting in a deletion review

Any editor may express their opinion about an article or file being considered for deletion review. In the deletion review discussion, please type one of the following opinions preceded by an asterisk (*) and surrounded by three apostrophes (''') on either side. If you have additional thoughts to share, you may type this after the opinion. Place four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your entry, which should be placed below the entries of any previous editors:

  • Endorse the original closing decision; or
  • Relist on the relevant deletion forum (usually Articles for deletion); or
  • List, if the page was speedy deleted outside of the established criteria and you believe it needs a full discussion at the appropriate forum to decide if it should be deleted; or
  • Overturn the original decision and optionally an (action) per the Guide to deletion. For a keep decision, the default action associated with overturning is delete and vice versa. If an editor desires some action other than the default, they should make this clear; or
  • Allow recreation of the page if new information is presented and deemed sufficient to permit recreation.

Examples of opinions for an article that had been deleted:

  • *'''Endorse''' The original closing decision looks like it was sound, no reason shown here to overturn it. ~~~~
  • *'''Relist''' A new discussion at AfD should bring a more thorough discussion, given the new information shown here. ~~~~
  • *'''Allow recreation''' The new information provided looks like it justifies recreation of the article from scratch if there is anyone willing to do the work. ~~~~
  • *'''List''' Article was speedied without discussion, criteria given did not match the problem, full discussion at AfD looks warranted. ~~~~
  • *'''Overturn and merge''' The article is a content fork, should have been merged into existing article on this topic rather than deleted. ~~~~
  • *'''Overturn and userfy''' Needs more development in userspace before being published again, but the subject meets our notability criteria. ~~~~
  • *'''Overturn''' Original deletion decision was not consistent with current policies. ~~~~

Remember that deletion review is not an opportunity to (re-)express your opinion on the content in question. It is an opportunity to correct errors in process (in the absence of significant new information), and thus the action specified should be the editor's feeling of the correct interpretation of the debate. Deletion review is facilitated by succinct discussions of policies and guidelines; long or repeated arguments are not generally helpful. Rather, editors should set out the key policies and guidelines supporting their preferred outcome.

The presentation of new information about the content should be prefaced by Relist, rather than Overturn and (action). This information can then be more fully evaluated in its proper deletion discussion forum. Allow recreation is an alternative in such cases.

The usage of large language models such as ChatGPT to create deletion review nominations or comments is strongly discouraged and such contributions are liable to be removed or collapsed by an uninvolved administrator.

Temporary undeletion

Admins participating in deletion reviews are routinely requested to restore deleted pages under review and replace the content with the {{temporarily undeleted }} template, leaving the history for review by everyone. However, copyright violations and violations of the policy on biographies of living persons should not be restored.

Closing reviews

A nominated page that requires a community consensus decision should remain on deletion review for at least seven days (unless the nomination was a proposed deletion). In such cases, an administrator will determine whether a consensus exists after seven days. If that consensus is to undelete, the admin should follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Administrator instructions. If the consensus was to relist, the page should be relisted at the appropriate forum. If the consensus was that the deletion was endorsed, the discussion should be closed with the consensus documented.

If the administrator closes the deletion review as no consensus, the outcome should generally be the same as if the decision was endorsed. However:

  • If the decision under appeal was a speedy deletion, the page(s) in question should be restored, as it indicates the deletion was not uncontroversial. The closer, or any editor, may then proceed to nominate the page at the appropriate deletion discussion forum, if they so choose.
  • If the decision under appeal was an XfD close, the closer may, at their discretion, relist the page(s) at the relevant XfD.

Ideally, all closes should be made by an administrator to ensure that what is effectively the final appeal is applied consistently and fairly. But, in cases where the outcome is patently obvious, it is permissible for a non-admin (ideally a DRV regular) to close discussions. Non-consensus closes should be avoided by non-admins unless they are absolutely unavoidable and the closer is sufficiently experienced at DRV to make that call. (Hint: if you are not sure that you have enough DRV experience then you don't.)

Early closes
  • An objection to a proposed deletion can be processed immediately as if it were a request at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion.
  • Where the deletion discussion has reopened or changed, either by the closer of the deletion discussion or by an uninvolved administrator who has vacated a procedurally invalid non-administrative close,[a] and nobody has endorsed. In this case, the deletion review may be speedily closed as overturned or relisted as appropriate. The closer should fully reverse their close, restoring any deleted pages if appropriate.
  • Where the nominator of a DRV has withdrawn their nomination, and no one has recommended any outcome but endorse, the nominator may speedily close as "endorse" (or ask someone else to do so for them).
  • Where the closer of a deletion discussion acknowledges that their close was wrong, and no one has endorsed, the closer may speedily close as overturn. They should fully reverse their close, restoring any deleted pages if appropriate.
  • Discussions may be closed without result if they are entirely disruptive. (e.g. disruptive or sockpuppet nominations, repeated nominations of the same page, a large language model is used to construct the request, or the page is listed at WP:DEEPER). These will usually be marked as "procedural close".
  1. Challenges regarding whether a non-admin closure was contentious or correctly assessed consensus should be addressed through Deletion Review.

I don't believe that the deleting admin has used the right procedures for deleting this article, because:

1)The article was already put through Speedy Deletion G11 on June 12, 2026 and opposed. Since it was opposed before, clearly it doesn't meet the G11 criteria for deletion and should not have been nominated for Speedy Deletion under G11 again.

2) As the creator I was never notified in my TALK page about this, so I never had a chance to oppose it. The procedures state to notify the creator of such nominations. If you had notified me, I would have opposed it.

3) G11 is supposed to be for articles that need to be completely rewritten to not read like an ad, which I do not think was the case here, unless you can explain why a simple rewrite of the parts with issues would not have fixed it.

4) The article included over 10 citations and in my opinion met WP:CORP and WP:GNG criteria. However, if you feel this was an issue AFD should have been used.

I would kindly ask to restore the article and if you still feel it has advertising issues, let me know the exact issues, so I can fix them. Sandrafoxy (talk) 21:58, 31 August 2026 (UTC) reply

@Sandrafoxy were you the temporary account that removed the speedy deletion tag on 12 June 2026? Katzrockso (talk) 00:47, 1 September 2026 (UTC) reply
  • Overturn G11 Probably won't survive AfD, to which I expect someone will refer it, but it's not sufficiently promotional for G11. "We have a company that does X, Y, and Z!" may be promotional in intent, but it's not "We have a company! Buy our stuff!" level of unambiguous promotion. This was not an attack page. This was a legitimate article about a new hotel that has already gained some infamy due to a viral controversy which was covered in the Wall Street Journal https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/travel/aman-amanvari-ryan-walker-youtube-3cc8284b and Robb Report https://robbreport.com/travel/hotels/ryan-walker-says-amanvari-canceled-his-stay-and-called-cops-1238537346/ in addition to many smaller magazines. The opening itself was covered in Financial Times https://www.ft.com/content/0cdeb545-f6fe-4d97-aa1a-5933e58773c6 Los Angeles Times https://www.latimes.com/eta/travel-destinations/north-america/mexico/story/amanvari-mexico-resort and many other places. • The article was pretty lopsided - about two thirds of it was about the incident ProfExistence writes about - but it was well-cited, including both the WSJ and Robb Report links above. I'd not have speedied this. —Cryptic 18:02, 31 August 2026 (UTC) reply
  • Restore and send to AfD. When deleted, the article did read like an attack page against the hotel, with 209 out of the 323 words of prose focused on one incident, as Cryptic pointed out. However, that one incident did receive significant coverage in independent, reliable, mainstream media. After retitling and refocusing the article to be about the incident, it may meet our notability guidelines for events, but that's a question for AfD, not DRV. • Even if you didn't see it as an attack page, it was basically a hotel review, more suited to Wikipedia:Wikivoyage than an encyclopedia like Wikipedia. Liz Read! Talk! 03:06, 1 September 2026 (UTC) reply
  • Overturn G10, send to AfD Sourced negative criticism can be DUE, and this isn't a BLP, so off to AfD for it. Jclemens (talk) 06:53, 1 September 2026 (UTC) reply
Is there any prior discussion on whether G10 applies to non-BLP? Katzrockso (talk) 00:21, 2 September 2026 (UTC) reply

If this image shows the building exterior (not the interior or the artworks within), then this can now be restored courtesy of outdoor architecture-only FoP as per c:COM:FOP Saudi Arabia since mid-August 2026. However, the building appears to have a forecourt or courtyard area of some sort between the main entrance and the door (view1, view2), which would put into question if this image satisfies "the exterior of architectural works" requirement of the new Saudi FoP. (削除) Before opening this, I did open a discussion with the closer. Unfortunately, even with the nominator agreeing that the close was incorrect, a resolution could not be reached. (削除ここまで)

(削除) This was closed as NC, despite the weighting quite clearly being with delete. The nominator's rationale centered on GNG, with the available coverage being deemed insufficient due to lack of reliability or prior consensus (Gamezebo). A !weak keep after the first relist offered a source that did not constitute SIGCOV, which they themself admitted. For that reason, their !keep held little weight overall, leaving consensus to form around deletion. (I had suggested redirection as an WP:ATD but the nominator gave sound reasoning as to why this wasn't a viable option. I accepted this, defaulting my !vote to deletion, which a redirect functions as.) (削除ここまで)

(削除) The closer cited WP:NOQUORUM as their reason for closing as NC. This doesn't hold up, despite the low participation, because the nomination was opposed by the single weak keep !vote. There was no case for NOQUORUM, or for a soft closure. To me, this was a failure to correctly identify which side had the weight for consensus. NC defaults to keep, which means an article that does not meet the GNG threshold has been given incorrect weight. I believe this should be overturned to delete. • 11WB, please do not misrepresent my comments. Copied directly from my talk page:

Hi 11WB and ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ: as per WP:CLOSEAFD, there should be a rough consensus to come to a conclusion. This generally requires a quorum, which did not exist here: three contributors, one of whom opposed the proposed action. In this instance, the criteria for performing a soft closure under WP:NOQUORUM was not met: any form of objection quashes the possibility of a "soft" closure. The lack of a quorum is also why I relisted it two weeks ago, and I expect why Sandstein relisted it last week. ... —Chris Woodrich (talk) 13:10, 30 August 2026 (UTC)

As I stated, there were three participants, one of whom opposed the redirect. Consequently, there was no quorum available to determine a consensus. The soft closure criteria available were not applicable due to the previous AFD and the presence of a vote against the proposed redirect. WP:NOQUORUM is not a link to a policy page about the existence of a quorum; it is a link to a discussion about instances where a closure may be made in the instance of a no quorum.
As another point of order, no consensus defaults to the status quo, not keep. There is an important distinction: no consensus means there was insufficient information to determine a consensus, whereas keep means that there was a community consensus that a proposed action was inappropriate. I will not comment any further here.—Chris Woodrich (talk) 14:22, 30 August 2026 (UTC) reply
I believe you have misrepresented my comments, not the reverse @Crisco 1492. NOQUORUM does not apply, because there was in fact a quorum. To delete the article. If my replies are a tad blunt, it is because I was called out for reasonably pinging another closer for a second opinion (which is actually a courtesy to the closer being challenged). Telling me I could "get into trouble" was ridiculously patronising, but there we go. Onwards and upwards. 11WB 💬 14:24, 30 August 2026 (UTC) reply
  • Endorse. I have nothing really to add to Crisco 1492's clear and concise explanation. With a grand total of two participants arguing against standalone retention, the best outcome the appellant could expect is a soft delete, and that's only if there is no opposition. But there was opposition. The appellant may wish to review WP:PROD and WP:SOFTDELETE - the strength of the argument for retention doesn't matter when there is no quorum for deletion. The no-consensus close was the only possible close. Anyone is welcome to renominate the page in hope of broader participation. Owen×ばつ 14:38, 30 August 2026 (UTC) reply
PROD doesn't apply as the nomination was opposed. As for soft delete, that doesn't cut any mustard either, as there was a quorum. Whatever the case, I'm out of energy to expend at this time. My patience at the moment is thinner than paper, so I'll leave that there. 11WB 💬 14:52, 30 August 2026 (UTC) reply
