Two programming languages use the name PLUS

[edit ]

It turns out that two different programming languages use the name PLUS. The one described in this article is from the University of British Columbia. The other is from Univac. I will add a note to the article pointing this out.

Here is an e-mail exchange that I had with Alan Ballard about this:

Just checking to make sure that this is the same PLUS programming
language that we all know and love. I guess I could make a trip
to the library and look at the article on paper.

No it isn’t.... that’s a "programming language for Univac systems"
or something like that.... We found out about it sometime after we
had named our language....
There was a paper on our Plus in the Canadian Information
Processing Society proceedings, but I don’t seem to be able to
find a copy and they don’t have online archives so can’t give
you a reference. If I get out to UBC, I might be able to
find it in the library there...
