As of April 20th, 2026, BigLake is now called Lakehouse. BigLake metastore is now called the Lakehouse runtime catalog. Lakehouse APIs, client libraries, CLI commands, and IAM names remain unchanged and still reference BigLake.

Migrate metadata from external catalogs to Apache Iceberg tables managed by Lakehouse

The BigQuery Migration Service migrates metadata from external data catalogs into borderless Lakehouse. This process creates Apache Iceberg tables managed by Lakehouse from supported sources, including the Apache Hive Metastore and Apache Iceberg REST catalog endpoints.
