I decided to have another go at this series after the episode based around the port of Abe's Oddysee on the PS Vita took off reasonable well. By taking off, I of course mean as of writing it nearly has 200 views; a big leap from the usual 50 odd views in the first fortnight for sure. Small potatoes indeed, but Retro Game On's YouTube channel is gaining momentum non the less, no matter how slowly it may be.

Just in case you're unaware, Let's Take A Look At episodes don't actually review the game its self, but instead how the ports of retro games hold-up on modern day devices. In this episode, we take a look at Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which was recently released on mobile devices the other week. This would of been up sooner... but my internet capped. Today there was happiness, laughter and dancing in the street as Max Payne was released for Android. Being the Rockstar fanboy I am (just check the games section of this blog to see my GTA collection) I pounced right on this since it actually works on my phone. Plus it being only 3ドル didn't hurt my wallet in the slightest for a classic such as this.

I adore the shit out of this game; I literally fan gasm'd when I read it had been released. As I said it even works on my phone, being that it only runs on a single core I find it quite impressive really.
There isn't too much lag (compared to GTA 3 for Android anyway) and the touch controls are actually quite solid. Having said that though you can connect an external controller if you have fat fingers, but I feel this kind of spoils the portable idea. You mind as well just play it on PS2.

Either way I'm quite impressed by this port and feel that Rockstar need to give themselves a pat on their back. You can't go wrong for 3,ドル especially when it's a game of this magnitude.

[Max Payne for Android]

Last year I blogged about Grand Theft Auto 3 being ported to Android and IOS devices. I was a little peeved as my Android Motorola Defy+ wasn't on the supported list, and I wasn't sure if I should risk the 5ドル to see if it worked. Well, the other day my curiosity got the better of me and I decided that instead of buying junk food or shitty GBA games, I would risk it for the 5ドル.

After downloading the 8mb game from the Android store, and then another 400mb update (I knew the size didn't make sense originally) I was playing. It works! Although the frame rate sometimes leaves a little bit more to be desired.
While it is playable, sometimes random slowdown can happen. Not bad though considering my phone isn't officially supported. For all I know I could of just got a black screen on launch, I certainly don't feel as if I've wasted that 5ドル.
So is it any good? Well yeah, I reckon so. The touch controls can get a bit of getting use to, but that's the beauty of it... they can get used to! Considering Rockstar only had a small space to work with touch screen control wise, I think they did quite well. The driving is excellent, but the shooting isn't as good. Not bad though, but it can get frustrating sometimes.
All in all, I'm quite impressed as there is no other games to my knowledge where you can kill hookers while on the train!

Yes, you heard me. This week Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto 3 for Android and IOS devices for it's 10 year anniversary. If you've ever looked in my games section, you tell can right off the bat that I'm a massive GTA whore. I own every single title to my knowledge expect for GTA2 and that London one.

The day it's released I go and check out the product page for it on the Android Market. As I'm scrolling through the description, I get more and more excited. Finally; I can kill hookers and take they're money while I'm on the train, I thought to myself. All this excitement reached an anti-climax when I reached the 'supported phone' section of the description though. My phone wasn't on the list. Oh the humanity.
Personally I have a Motorola Defy+, which is by know means a shit phone. Well, I hope not anyway. Bloody thing cost me three hundred bucks. It has a 1Ghz processor and 512mb of RAM. This should be enough to run a 10 year old game right?
The thing is, it's a relatively new phone. In the list there was a whole lot of other Motorola phones, older than mine. Maybe it would still work anyway? It's only five bucks, but its the disappointment of it not working which I'm more scared of.
Hmmm, what a dilemma.
