| Piercing simulated halos with pencil and extended beams |
|---|
Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations are reaching enough resolution to explore the kpc-scale CGM via mock spectra. In this talk I will show spatially resolved absorption line "spectroscopy" of TNG50 halos using point-like and extended sources that mimic QSO and gravitational arc spectra, respectively. Our goal is to (1) study the effect these different spatial samplings have on observables like the EW-distribution and the EW vs. impact parameter relation, (2) compare these statistics with real QSO and arc data and (3) compute the coherence length of the simulated CGM and study the intrinsic properties of the TNG50 cool CGM that determine its value. |
