Engineering

Engineering was not a major user of Atlas early on but this gradually increased until by the time the Atlas Computer laboratory merged with the Rutherford Laboratory it was a significant user. So much so that the new Interactive Computing Facility launched in 1975 was aimed at the University Engineering sector.

From 26-28 March, 1974, a Finite Element Symposium was organised at Cosener's House by Jean Crow (later Jean Nunn-Price). with 15 papers being presented. Jean was also responsible for organising the production of the Finite Elements computer animation film.
