As some provinces and regions have suffered from serious disasters like earthquakes and floods recently, the State Administration of Press Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) issued an emergent notice on July 23, requiring departments of press and publication in relevant provinces and regions seriously implement arrangements and deployments concerning flood control, drought and earthquake relief.

In the notice, some relevant publication units are required to publish or print a number of safety handbooks and wall maps on preventing disasters and reducing damages as soon as possible. These handbooks and wall maps will be delivered to disaster areas immediately to tell the local people knowledge about flood control, drought and earthquake relief, and help them strengthen their capacity for and confidence in disaster relief. The notice also requires the publication units make full efforts in the publication, printing and issuing works of primary and high school textbooks so as to ensure each of them has a textbook during the autumn term. And each institution in the circulation field, especially Xinhua Bookstores at the county level and village level, should organize the supply of books to satisfy demands of people in disaster areas.
