This is very slick! It will definately come in handy. I am using it on my Treo 700W and the install was very easy.

I downloaded it on my Q the other day - I love it!! Greatest and most convenient program ever! I'm going to use the driving directions feature all the time, and the ability to view satellite maps easily on the Q is very very useful.. Now if only the Q had a GPS!! (The Maps for Mobile supports GPS if the phone has it)

Was not usable for Germany (I entered e.g. [pizza stuttgart, germany] and it didn't move to Germany). Was also too slow for really smooth use, though that's no fault of Google's, it's just the way the data transfer happens to be slow with my phone.

I'll wait for iPhone :)

I've had it installed on my Blackberry Pearl for over a month now. It works great, and is much better than the BB Maps application that comes pre-installed. I probably use it 3-4 times a week for directions and finding locations of businesses. The movement is great with the trackball and speed is good over the Cingular EDGE network. Now I an definitely addicted to my crackberry :)

if you have connection problems with Google Maps Mobile on your Windows Mobile 5 device, it is possibly the case that the J2ME implementation disregards the proxy setting from the Access Point settings.

But you can still add the proxy setting manually via the registry.

It didn't work for me (using german O2 wap flatrate) until I changed the proxy settings.

I can't get it to work on my IPAQ 4150. I have downloaded the latest cab file, but I still get a message that the installation was unsuccessful, and to run the setup file again.

I have installed it to both main memory and sd card.

why a seperate client?

install mozilla minimo, and you got yourself access to all cool mappnig services around, since it actually know how to deal with javascript, okay, its a bit slower than the pocketIE, but that thing can't even handle onclick events.

Oh i remember, IE isn't meant to actually allow you to browse the web, its meant to keep the competition from gaining foothold.

Is there anyway to get this running with the O2 WAP Flatrate?

The site chip posted is just for the Java-Application, not for the native one.

I just got a Bluetooth GPS (Route66) to use with my HTC 8125... and I can't get Google Maps to work at all. Searching the net, it looks like I'm not alone. I'd LOVE to see some working, real GPS support. I hate to have to resort to Microsoft Life.

Ok, after a few hours, I accidentally found the solution to get BT GPS working in Windows Mobile 5.

In GPS settings, I have the GPS Program port set to GPD1, not COM1. Then in the Hardware Tab, it's set to COM6 (the port I assigned the BT GPS unit in the bluetooth preferences).

I hope this helps other people out. I never saw GPD1 mentioned in my hours of searching.

Has anyone got it to work on Samsung blackjack? I have Medianet and for some reason the GoogleMap program seems to think I don't have network connection confifured. Appreciate if anyone can tell how they got it to work on Samsung Blackjack.

i am using pocket pc 6700 sys 5. i have the bluetooth on using the holux gpslim236 but the gps in google maps will not work is there a solution.

I never got google maps to work with the built-in gps in the Q. I ended up buying a 45ドル sirfStar iii gps device to work with it. You also must use the gpscom utility found at xda developers forum http://tinyurl.com/2r4uhc (shortened) to enable the correct com port settings.

There is also another program called map4pda @ map4pda.com that has multiple map sources and works well with an external gps device. Still needs the gpscom util to communicate with the external BT gps.

I am not able to install google maps on pocket pc hp6325 it says intallation please run setup file again, it seems this application is not copatible with windows mobile 2003 running on hp 6300 series as i m not the only one who was not able to install it on a hp 6325 i saw many other post on the net which have the same problem..!!!!

no its not good bexause for loading a map you need connection to internet every time you move the cursor..this is bad because the internet from the carrier is very slow and expensive and the wifi connection works only in places that you dont need the gps(cafes).

No! It doesn't work on HP Ipaq 63xx. I think it is because there is no Java console. It works on 6515 if launched through the Java console.

Downloaded Google Maps via GPRS connection on Treo 750, but on running Google Maps said "data connection required" (wininetHttpError [0 12007]) - worked very well on the Treo up to a few weeks ago. Had a good GPRS connection at the time, as evidenced by web browser and audio streaming software. Frustrating!

I tried to setup several different blue tooth GPS devices in Google Maps on my HTC S620. None of them would work. While even the foggiest applications that I downloaded for my phone connect to the GPS devices, Google Maps keeps telling me: Cannot connect to GPS Hardware.

So I'm now using Windows Live instead.

I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon on this and cannot seem to
find a solution.

I'll open google maps and it'll automatically dial into the EVDO
network and connects just fine. It'll show the last place I had open
and It allows me to use it just fine.

After being connected for a short period (between 20 and 40 seconds)
the Loading... bar will just freeze. After a few minutes of sitting
there it finally gives me the dreaded:

"This program requires a data connection... (snip)... Error:
wininetHttpError [0 12019]"

This seems to be a problem with google not communicating with the
phone to "check" if the connection is active, and if it is not to
"restart" the connection.

I've done many soft resets, uninstalls, upgraded from the first
version to version 1.2.0.9.

Everything to no avail. I took the final step of doing a hard reset on
the phone thinking for sure it would fix things. it didn't.

I use google maps on my phone ALL THE TIME, and the live traffic is
especially useful since i live in Los Angeles.

Please help me with this!!!

P.S. I've seen hundreds of posts reporting the same problem on many
different phones/carriers but haven't seen a single solution yet.

you need to set up Windows Mobile not to use proxy (by default it "uses" proxy, but does not specify any one and it seems that GMM don't like it much, unlike all other applications)

I am so #$#$@ frustrated, I've been to delorme, ATT, and countless GPS sites, I've installed patches, but GMM still won't work on my BlackJack. I'm bout ready to pitch it all and go back to my Treo 650, at least you don't need a million hacks to get a stupid GPS to work!

Since long i am trying to have good application for my Windows mobile for google maps, I had once Phone 2 GEarth from youpark for my symbian phone for google maps but this new application looks impressive. Really cool and easy to install !!!

Doesn't work on my S621 on Rogers, Windows Live does, but it is only for the UK and US. No Canada support. IOGear Navigator came with my GPS, that doesn't worl either. Still looking for a app solution.

i got it working on a tmobile dash (HTC) device with a holux 236 slim. Works great. You have to set up a bluetooth com port then go into google maps and go to tracking settings and tell it which com port and baud rate to use. I used a high baud rate and it worked fine.

I have an HP hw6515. I downloaded the latest edition of google maps mobile as a CAB file. It works fine. To get GPS to work I went to "Options" "Track Location Settings" and put in COM7: 9600 baud.

I sure would apreciate a shoutout from DavoMelbourne. I also have a HP 6515 (cingular version) and could use his help getting this properly installed. Thanks Much (eddennis@yahoo.com).

I think it would be nice if it worked, and even more than that, if google would put forth some effort to support it. I know free is a pretty good price, but free, and doesn't work, is just stupid.

can someone give me some help. I installed the google maps on my O2 Atom life and when I try to open the google maps it attempts to find internet connection rather than using GPS function. Because I'm not connected to the internet it quits on me. Please help.

You can't use Google Maps without an Internet connection.

I downloaded the gmap app to my Cingular/HTC 8525 running Window Mobile 5. But I can't get it to work when I am using wi-fi. I get an error saying "This program requires a data connection." How do I get it to recognize wi-fi as a data connection?

i have a hp ipaq rx1950, installed, tops when i had a data connection, but when there is no dada connection, it asks for lokking for gps satellites... i reckon i need some maps to stay permanently in the memory along with the application. is this possible?

Works great on the Samsung SCH-i760 (without GPS), Installed and runs without a hitch. Love it, use it all of the time.

Doesn't work on my Blackjack. It says I don't have a data connection but I do have one that I use already. I guess I can hack at it, but then...I don't want to bother with all that.

Another cry in the wilderness = my blackjack doesn't work right either (ATT media net too)

It does find/display locations I enter (using search) but with the flipping "your current location is temporarily unavailable", I miss the menu driven search.

The new feature might be cool - but negative cool points for promising & not delivering...

Brilliant on my Ipaq when I have a wireless connection - but unfortunately it's useless when I don't.

The ability to save a locality would do it! What about it Mr., Google?

Your syntax was roughly right,
however the arithmetic signs - & + should only be used when carrying out arithmetic sums although Google uses them in it’s notation. There is vertually no necessary syntax, see below:

Your coordinates for the location near to I think Santo Antonio, Brazil could be entered as follows:

Lat= Latitude. Lon = Longitude

29.83569S, 50.53925W No space between the Angle and Cardinal points & use a comma immediately after the cardinal point in the Lat & Lon.

I downloaded Google maps on my HTC touch and it disrupts incoming and outgoing text messages. It delays incoming messages for hours or days. Once I uninstalled Google maps, the problem was fixed. This has happened multiple times, so I do not think it is a server issue.

Cingular/ATT ships thier phones with the GPS disabled...Google "Unlock -your phone model- GPS" and you'll find the appropriate fix for your phone.

Once I found mine it worked great on my BlackJack II.

I just tried it with my Pharos 535e with built in GPS. It works really great. Not a single hitch. Everyone in my family was blown away by it.

I have installed Google Maps on my SPV M1000 but am getting an error message when I try to use the application which states "Cannot find 'GoogleMaps'(or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available."


Could some please tell me what I am doing wrong =)

someone has tried google maps on Samsung I780? i'm not able to make the gps working.

last time i can use google map on my ipaq 4150 until i hard reset recently. i cant remember how to get it done again. All i could remember is that i opened the cab files through Desktop pc and rename a few files. GMM_Launcher.dll, Cache-GLM.dat, googlemaps.exe and copy them to root folder.

I love the app. I hate the memory it takes. When asked if I want to install it to the storage card or main memory, it completely ignores my efforts to tell it to install on the storage card.

I figure this is a bug! With the cached maps, it tends to fill up the main storage of my phone, and make it crash.

Have been trying Google Maps 2.1.0.11 on my pocket PC (dell axim X3) and no joy.

I'm getting "cannot find 'googlemaps' or one of its components.....".

If you had an attention span longer than a gnat's, you'd probably have a job, and the money to buy a recent PDA that runs GMM with GPS perfectly.

I recently install Google Maps on my HTC Artemis 1100 device and it works great. The only thing I was wondering about: It is not able to use the "Windows managed" GPS settings. I had to manually configure the Port and the baud rate in Google Maps options.
I'd like to test the "show traffic", but it is greyed out. Has anybody working this option ? Does it need some extra hardware ?

Very impressive on the couple of iPAQs I've used with it when home in uk & stateside for work (great for finding my way around San Fran last year).

Apart from watching the bills, is there an easy way to know how much use is made of GPRS bandwitdth for its data/screen downloads ? ie. typical data volume per screen ? I now use on my own mobile and need to watch the costs !!

Cannot get google maps mobile to find "my Location" on the motorola Q9m. I set my phone to GPS on and it still could not work.

i have an HTC snap with google pre installed. i can't get it to locate my position with or without GPS function. it always failed to locate gps satellite then come out the windows telling me to look for clear sky view with no obstruction. Man... the sky is whats left between me & the satellite
