Get a Live.com Mail Address
Update: This trick doesn't work anymore.
If you couldn't get a satisfying mail account at Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Gmail, you can now get it at live.com. Although it's not yet official, it's quite easy to get a mail address like your.name@live.com.
You have to create a new account, press "sign up", then copy the location of and paste it in the address bar of the window where you loaded the page from live.com. Now you'll have live.com and a list of other localized domains for you to choose from.

Reply DeleteI've just created an account.
Reply DeleteWorks perfect, Just made mine!, Thank!
Reply DeleteI'm not able to register in your way.
Reply DeleteExcellent !
Reply DeleteWeird. I replaced "live." in the JavaScript with "gmail." and it let me register my Gmail address as a Windows Live ID. However, trying to login to Windows Live Mail gives the error, "Windows Live Mail does not support this account type." (Signing in to Windows Live Mail with my @live.com email address worked though.)
Reply DeleteThey should take a leaf out of Google's book and treat "your.name@live.com" and "yourname@live.com" as the same account.
Reply DeleteJS script is a neat hack ..!!
Reply DeleteHi all! I could create one, too! =)
Reply DeleteThe link for "create a new account" should be this one.
Reply DeleteAnother great tip! This is the first time I've been able to get a name.lastname@site.com setup due to how common my name is. I love your blog.
Reply DeleteIn Firefox: Drag the link to your Bookmarks Toolbar. Visit the sign-up page and then press the button you just added. This should work.
Reply Deletelookwhos@live.com ;)
Reply DeleteThanks Guys. :D
Reply DeleteGreat find.
Reply DeleteHowever I struggled a bit since I use FFx2.0
The copy link location kept opening a blank new tab.
Barton's tip above solved it.
I've now got 4 live.com IDs - variations of first.last@live.com
Thanks.
lol microsoft... i wonder if that was intentional or not
Reply Deleteif you change live for anything in the script, you can get an account like firstname@lastname.com, but it only can be used in services that use live ID like messenger, groups and spaces.....
Reply Delete--continue from last post-- you can't use hotmail
Reply Deletethxs, i'm registered 7 of it.
Reply DeleteDon't abuse the system, mmkay?
Reply DeleteAlex, do you think the ID's created with this hack would last forever, 'cos MS has not officially started live.com, what will happen, if people start sending & reciving emials on live.com ID's?
Reply DeleteI was just thinking about this!
Microsoft can't take your mail account unless you break their policies. This is just an unofficial way of getting a live.com address, you're not hacking their servers or something.
Reply DeleteI can't get the JS to work, i get no opo-up when i click it, what am i doing wrong? What exactly does 'the location' of this link mean?
Reply DeleteThanks
Don't click on the link. Just right-click and select:
Reply Delete* "Copy shortcut" (in Internet Explorer)
* "Copy link location" (in Firefox)
* "Copy link address" (in Opera)
* something similar for other browsers
Then go to the window (or tab) where you already loaded the page from live.com, paste the code in the address bar, press enter and fill the form.
This worked for me, I found out about it via sohil @ Clipmarks:

Reply DeleteI also created a live id. but was not able to create with my name. since it said that it found some errors in my name ???????
Reply DeleteIt said after I tried that they were trying to fix and error with the registration process. But Hotmail signups still work...
Reply DeleteThe trick did work, but I get this error:
Reply DeleteWe are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service.
Please try again.
Error code: 32

Nope, no email like that
Reply Delete=O(
Reply DeleteI clicked on it. I think it's a SPAM/PHISHING thing. Would everything be okay if I change my password & secret answer for that account?
When I clicked on it, the link took me to Account Settings.
I emailed Windows Live ID about the above email and they said they sent it to me. It's not a spam/phishing email. Now I can relax. LOL
Reply DeleteDon't relax too much. Microsoft says: "If you created an @live.com account using the instructions below, it's quite likely the account will get blown away."
Reply Deleteim using my @live.com address since yesterday with no problem, but etill prefer to use gmail =)
