i once managed to post 11MB... that was in the very beginning of Gmail though, and i didnt know about the whole 10MB limit, so i didnt think much of it... i tried doing the same thing now with the same attatchments, and it didn't work. Wierd.

the 10mb limit pinches a lot, isnt there any way to overcome it.. and anyway to attach executable .exe files in gmail.. i normally rename them to .exc or zip them up to make them attchable with gmail..

Well, sort of offtopic, but i tihnk google should let people attach more, or at least give them a way to send more filoes, maybe a new service, mayb links to other companies, or maybe some feature to break files into parts online, (so it would send a 30 megabyte file as three emails)

the 10 mb limit is not a gmail thing, it is a universay email thing. Most, if not all free email services can only accept 10mb attachments, that's been the norm for as long as i can remember. And it had nothing to do with the small size of most free email accounts, it had to do with bandwith, upload bandwith is generally always much much slower then downloads, and uploading anything more then 10mb will take a very long time.

Back on topic, i was able to send some 13mb files, Bat out of Hell encoded at 160kbps mp3 was something like 13-15 mb, i forget. It took at least 40 mins to upload, but it was sent, however, that was in october of 2004. I have since been unable to do it again, partly because i don't have any reason for uploading such large files, and mostly because i dont have as much free time anymore.

I do agree though, google should up their limit to 20-30mb, nothing too much more yet. Gmail ang google started the revolution of increased storage space with free email, they should be able to do the same with max upload size.
(besides, we have 2.7 gb of space to fill up)

the whole attachment thing acts a bit funny in Firefox. When you add an attachment, suddenly a "script not responding" box comes up on Firefox and you have to stop the script before the attachment can be added properly.

I've sent large attachments before, no problem. Gmail is very good with regards to attachments.

You realize that this limit is per attachment, not per mail? Since I managed to send over 80 mb in a mail once, everything split into rar archives.

I have just uploaded a 13.2MB file. I have no idea why. It was a zip file. I really thought it was not going to get through.

This is unofficial, but it seems that the maximum size is around 14 MB.

Today I uploaded 2 pdf attachments as a total of 14571 KB.

i tried to upload but didnt work so i just stuck a fork in my eye and ran home to mommy

Seems like they've officially changed the maximum size to 20mb now - I just sent a 17mb mp3.

and btw i think its unlimited for saving drafts, but eventually it times out...

i am not able to send 82.3 MB as attachmnet. it should be increased to 100 MB

I have managed to send 10.9MB as attachment using Gmail account. I am very happy i got it through. I would highly recommend to use gmail account.

I dont think so, just uploading 7 mb zip file, keep on showing "still working..." text on yellow background (process bar)... I dont think so... to send files thru gmail is the best option. Please let me know if any other mail which can send larger files.

Before anyone else posts on here about how much they have SENT...please know that sending depends on the receiving e-mail server.

If you are sending to yahoo.com and they have a 5 meg limit, then that is all you can send.

It's great that you can send large attachments from Google.......but yahoo and other clients won't accept them. Just tried to send a large file and Google sent it out fine but Yahoo rejected it. So as long are you are sending from Gmail to Gmail everything will work fine....good luck sending it to another client.

I zip and encrypt my backup files before uploading them. I use the free jzip and axcrypt programs. Be sure to not download similar-sounding programs that may be crapware in disguise.

Xdrive free version stood as my favorite free online backup program until the business sadly went defunct. Although there were glitches of the upload process (the uploads were very slow and more often than not “timed out”), Xdrive didn’t require a program to be installed on my ‘puter and it had a wonderful windows-like explorer.

Box.net free version has 1 GB total storage capacity but only 25 MG max per upload.

Mozy.com free version has 2 GB total storage capacity.

Idrive.com free version has 2 GB total storage capacity.

MS Office Live Workspace has 5 GB total storage capacity but only 30 MG max per upload.

Gmail has over 7 GB total storage but only 10 MB max per upload, a little more depending on the type of upload file.

I like to keep my backup files as small as possible even if the backup program has lots of per individual and total capacity. It makes transmission faster and less likely to "time out".
