Is there an updated guide to using Custom Domain Name. I have one, it directs to my wikidot pages. I just want it to say my domain name when on my sites now. The help pages are from 2010, not sure if I'm doing something wrong or just impatient.
The custom domain is http://emerald.ink
Thanks
Do u use CNAME in ur domain?
pCIKG9A.jpg(This is the configuration of wiki.helloos.eu.org)
Then go to /_admin page to configure it , and then check the box ‘use custom domain only’.
Don’t forget to click the ‘save’ button.
(My english is poor QwQ)
This helped, found the way to add CNAME to the domain name. I see there are multiple CNAME's there, does this matter, or as long as I have the one for illumineer.wikidot.com it should be good here?
You're English was good, got me where I needed to go!
I did turn on DNS forwarding through the host, is this effecting it? I have the CNAME set to wikidot.com and I have clicked on the always use custom domain.
Still showing as illumineer.wikidot.com and not emerald.ink
I have the cname at the DNS host set to illumineer.wikidot.com and I have custom domain here set to emerald.ink
I may have done something wrong, I did do DNS forward to illumineer.wikidot.com - was this a wrong step? Is this forcing illumineer.wikidot.com over emerald.ink?
When I enter "emerald.ink" into the browser address field in the next 1/2 seconds the http://illumineer.wikidot.com/ is shown with e expected start page..
The forward is working, but the URL change should not happen….
Service is my success. My webtips:www.blender.org (Open source), Wikidot-Handbook.

Yes, but I'd like it to look similar to HelloOSMe - when I click on their link https://helloos.eu.org - my browser still says helloos.eu.org - not helloow.wikidot.com.
How do I get to that state?
1. Ur DNS resolution provider DO NOT support CNAME in the root domain (emerald.ink). Maybe U can try to create a record like this:
Class | Sub Domain | Content |
---|---|---|
CNAME | www | illumineer.wikidot.com |
A | [root domain, use @ if u r using Cloudflare] | 107.20.139.176 |
My configuration:
pC7N9Cq.png
and https://helloos.eu.org is my github pages… This is my site on wikidot :https://wiki.helloos.eu.org
I'm using godaddy, the same one referenced in the 2010 wikidot document for doing exactly this.
I have CNAME set up.
cname.PNGThen I went to custom domain in admin panel.
custom.PNGThe only extra thing that may be wrong, is I included a forward on the go-daddy DNS manager, I am asking if this could be what prevents it from displaying as emerald.ink in the address panel?
forward.PNGMaybe that's what's wrong. I'm clueless and not sure what part to change now.
Oh this is the problem!
forward.PNGDestination should point to http://www.emerald.ink/
and edit your admin panel :Custom domain should point to www.emerald.ink but not emerald.ink
This works like a charm, this is the part I was missing.
Thanks for your patience and helping me with my confusion.
Weird, it was doing this for about 30 minutes then switched back to showing as illumineer.wikidot.com in the address bar.
ON the forward to http://www.emerald.ink I have a selection of Forward Type. They include 301, 302 and Forward Masking, is this relevant to this?
After waiting for DNS to figure things out I now get two errors (and it was working after I made the initial change).
If I go to emerald.ink - I get this:
The site does not exist.
(Not) hosted by Wikidot.
When I try https://www.emerald.ink, I get a 'this page isn't working right now', it says www.emerald.ink redirected too many times and an 'ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS'. It tells me to clear my cookies?
http://www.emerald.ink works just fine now.
I'm glad to hear that http://www.emerald.ink works nice.
and I think you should redirect the root domain emerald.ink to www.emerald.ink with code 301.

Maybe it's SSL's problem.
Maybe it's SSL's problem
I think this is it, now the https://domain just gives the security risk for browsers with high settings. How do I get a certificate for the page to certify it?
Er...
I suggest using CloudFlare as your DNS and CDN service provider.
I don’t know why... Maybe the problem is: you cannot change your SSL certificate on wikidot.
I’ll draw two pictures to show how the custom domain works.

Just guessing...
I've had others not familiar with wikidot suggest CloudFare as the bridge between both worlds. I'll look into this and try to go this route.
