Molecular and functional characterization of an octopamine receptor from honeybee (Apis mellifera) brain

The cloning and functional characterization of the first octopamine receptor from the honeybee, Apis mellifera, are reported, suggesting that this octopamines receptor is involved in the processing of sensory inputs, antennal motor outputs and higher‐order brain functions.

Unusually high recombination rate detected in the sex locus region of the honey bee (Apis mellifera).

It is suggested that a "hotspot" for recombination has resulted here because of selection for combining favorable genotypes, and perhaps as a result of selection against deleterious mutations.

A scientific note on the preparation of high molecular weight DNA from honeybee Apis mellifera L. pupae for PFGE analysis
