I am an Emeritus Professor of Engineering Science at Oxford, where from 1989 to 2021 I guided research in the Active Vision Laboratory.
Originally a physicist studying properties of nuclei, I began to work on computational vision in the early 1980s while working for GEC Research.
The emphasis of my work both then and now has been on the recovery of 3D scene structure and ego motion analysis using a single camera. Applications have been pursued in surveillance, location and mapping, navigation, teleoperation, wearable and assistive computing, and augmented reality.
I am also an Emeritus Fellow of St Anne's College, where I taught undergraduates topics in mathematical, electronic, and information engineering.
