Tawbuid (Batangan / Bangon)

Tawbuid is a member of the South Mangyan branch of the Philippine language family. It is spoken in the centre of Mindoro island in the Mimaropa region of the Philippines by about 7,940 people.

There are two varieties of Tawbuid, which are classified as separate languages in some sources:

Western Tawbuid, which has about 6,810 speakers in the municipalities of Sablayan and Calintaan in the province of Occidental Mindoro. It is also known as Batangan, Batangan Taubuid, Fanawbuid, Western Taubuid or Western Tawbuid
Eastern Tawbuid, which is spoken by 1,130 people in the municipalities of Socorro, Pinamalayan and Gloria in the province of Oriental Mindoro. It is also known as Bangon, Barangan, Batangan, Binatangan, Eastern Tawbuid, Fanawbuid, Suri, Tabuid, Taubuid or Tiron
