"The rise of AI-native networks marks a new chapter in the evolution of global communications, pushing the boundaries of how networks are designed, managed, and optimized " – Buse Bilgin

The ITU-T Focus Group on AI-Native Networks (FG AI-Native) was established by ITU-T Study Group 13 in July 2024 and will be launched after WTSA-24 aiming at exploring and defining the fundamental changes needed in network architecture to fully harness the potential of AI.This focus group seeks to identify the requirements, challenges, and opportunities that AI-native networks will bring to the global communications landscape.

AI-native networks refer to a new paradigm where AI is not merely an add-on feature but is deeply embedded in the core architecture, enabling unprecedented levels of automation, optimization, and intelligence. These networks will be capable of self-management, self-optimization, and even self-repair, allowing them to meet the demands of future applications that require high agility, precision, and speed.

The FG AI-Native Networks will focus on several key objectives:
•Researching AI integration in network architecture: Understanding how AI can be embedded in the core of network design, moving beyond traditional models to create networks that are intelligent by nature.
•Identifying new use cases: Exploring novel applications enabled by AI-native networks, including autonomous systems, smart cities, and real-time adaptive services.
•Addressing challenges and gaps: Reviewing current technologies and standards to identify what is lacking in the transition towards AI-native networks.
•Collaborating with other bodies: Establishing partnerships with other standard development organizations (SDOs) and industry groups to ensure a unified approach to AI-native networking.
