Previous research
My research has examined the mechanisms of firm growth in emerging economies. In particular, I have focused on how backwardness—i.e., latecomer status relative to firms in advanced economies—shapes growth trajectories. Drawing on fast-growing Chinese firms as a focal case, I have studied how they harness the advantages of backwardness while mitigating its disadvantages. This research has demonstrated that growth trajectories vary across countries, contingent on their economic and technological conditions.
Current research projects
1. To generalize the mechanisms of firm growth, I study how heterogeneity in accumulated experience affects firms’ growth trajectories and performance.
2. To clarify the link between firm and economic growth, I study how inter-firm competition drives economic growth through industrial development and structural transformation.
