Capacity building for digitalization of industries in developing countries: A case study of Thailand with a focus on HRD(2021_2_40_009)

Outline

The leading industrialized countries in Southeast Asia are promoting policies for the automation and digitization of the industrial activities so as to improve productivity. Thailand has developed its "Thailand 4.0 policy" and its "Eastern Economic Corridor" (EEC) development policy to promote investments in industries associated with automation and IT and the use of IT by companies for industrial sophistication. Our previous research into the digitalization of manufacturing industries in Thailand has confirmed that some Thai companies are making investments in automation and digitalization in response to such government policies. This research will investigate the actual situation of efforts for organizational reform, human resources development, and other activities for the absorptive capacity-building necessary for the effective utilization of automatic production and digital systems by conducting a survey of companies and interviews with related organizations. Based on the findings from the qualitative and quantitative studies, we will consider the policies necessary to promote industrial digitalization in Thailand and other developing countries.
