Impacts of ASEAN Open Skies(2017_1_40_014)
Outline
The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) at the end of 2015 was an epoch-making milestone in economic integration in the ASEAN region. During the process, ASEAN successfully completed the ratification process for the regional open sky agreements and gradually advanced negotiations for air transport agreements with neighboring countries. Along with this progress in institutional liberalization, aviation networks connecting ASEAN member states and others have rapidly expanded, and aviation has taken on increased importance as the infrastructure for transporting freight and passengers. Given this background, this research project aims to quantitatively analyse the process by which aviation networks expanded in the region and the impacts of institutional liberalization (open sky agreements).
