Industrialization and De-industrialization in Developing Countries (2017_1_40_007)

Outline

The manufacturing sector has long been regarded as the "engine of economic growth". It has been pointed out, however, that employment by the sector has been rather stable in the world economy and that there is a trend toward deindustrialization not only in post-industrial economies but also late-latecomer countries. This pleninary project aims to conduct basic and preparatory research on whether this 'premature deindustrialization' is really taking place and the mechanisms behind it by surveying previous studies on late industrialization and other data.
