Research Network of Marine-Coastal Stressors in Latin America and the Caribbean (REMARCO)

Networks

The Research Network of Marine-Coastal Stressors in Latin America and the Caribbean (REMARCO) was created in 2018 with the support of IAEA technical cooperation projects. The network provides a unique space for the Latin America and Caribbean experts and institutions to share experiences, capabilities, information, protocols, and common practices addressing vulnerabilities of marine-coastal ecosystems such as chemical and microplastic pollution, harmful algal blooms, eutrophication, ocean acidification and challenges like assessing blue carbon inventories, among others.

REMARCO connects 18 Latin America and Caribbean countries with the mission of producing scientific evidence on the status of the marine-coastal environment using nuclear, isotopic, and complementary techniques to contribute to the adoption of policies and practices towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly the SDG 14 "Life Underwater".
